Eurozone Retail Sales Rise by 0.1%, Reversing April's Decline

Eurozone retail sales increased by 0.1% month-on-month in May, reversing an upwardly revised 0.2% decline in April and coming in slightly below the forecasted 0.2% rise. There was a 0.7% increase in sales of food, drink, and tobacco, following a 0.9% decline in April. Sales of fuel for vehicles, on the other hand, increased by 0.4%, compared to a previous fall of 0.7%. Sales of non-food products decreased by 0.2%, reversing a 0.5% rise. On a year-over-year basis, retail sales increased by 0.3% in May, following a 0.6% increase in April, as reported by Eurostat.
